Ipod Nano
Product Information
The Apple iPod features dual 90 MHz ARM 7TDMI processors (PortalPlayer PP5002 system on a chip)
(1.), 32 MB of DRAM, a 5.0 GB, 10.0 GB, or 20.0 GB hard drive (10.0 GB option after March 21, 2002, 20.0 GB option after July 17, 2002 2, 3.), a high-output amplifier (60-mW), a FireWire port, and a standard headphone jack in an ultrasleek "iBook white" and stainless steel case with a two inch white backlit LCD display. The iPod stands just over four inches tall, weighs less than seven ounces, and ships with "earbud-style" headphones with "Neodymium transducer magnets for accurate, high-fidelity sound".
The iPod also features a unique 'thumbwheel' controller for one-handed operation (the second generation models have a "touch wheel" that doesn't physically turn), and a simple, easy-to-use operating system designed for mobile devices.
The iPod provides 20-minutes of skip-protection, can transfer a CD in approximately 10 seconds, and can store from 1000-4000 songs (1000 on the 5.0 GB model, 4000 on the 20.0 GB model) in high-quality MP3 format (160-Kbps), as well as any other file type for transport to another computer.
Please note that the iPod is technically not a 'Mac', as it does not operate the MacOS. The Mac-compatible models, however, require the use of a Mac with built-in FireWire and MacOS 9.2.1 or MacOS X v10.1 or later for complete functionality.
On July 17, 2002, Apple began shipping the 10.0 GB and 20.0 GB models with a wired remote, a thinner FireWire cable, and a carrying case, in addition to shipping models designed for use with Windows.
